I've recently purchased both models and like to share some thoughts on the models.

Racer S

My first indoor bike so i don't have anything to compare against. Done about 15 hours of training on it.

Good bits

The bike itself is very quiet.. You can watch TV without turning it up too much. Some times it sounds like a mouse is trapped inside it.. it kind of comes and goes.
Feels very sturdy.... but (see bad bits). Tons of resistance.. I'm happy doing 300 watt max, and it goes to 600 watt in KWT

Bad bits

The box the steering handle is on has a bit of slack in it.... Which means if I put any weight on the handle it moves a bit. This gives me a rocking sensation when I stand and bike hard on it.
I'm concerned how long it will last before the whole thing snaps of...

The elbow pad padding.. They lasted exactly 2 hours...Doesn't kettler engineers don't sweat ?.... water dissolves glue.... padding is secure with glue.. you get the picture.

Without the padding water (actually sweat) has made the screws inside the pads rust... nice !

And to top it all off.... the thin thin plastic securing the screws has snapped off... so now one of the pads are just dangling..... on the flip side it's not collecting sweat anymore for rust

Also I'm concerned if the mice squeeks are a sign of trouble to come. There doesn't look to be any insulation from the person on the bike and the machinery below it.. ie big openings.... What happens with sweat over time going down there ?....

Unix S

Good bits

Very quiet... I had a £350 cross trainer before which was way noisier... The Unix S only makes slightly more noise than the Racer S

Super heavy..... In the manual it says it takes 40 minutes to assemble... for 2 people... That is true.. About 30 of those are spent trying to lift it... 10 minutes on the actual assembly

The 400 watt resistance is more than enough... I don't know why but it feels a lot heavier than the Racer S on the same wattage... On my old cross trainer I did about 1 hour trainings on 80% of max.... This one I'm on 40%.

Bad bits

Extended Range... what's that ? I'm really glad I got it actually because I feel sorry for the ones not having it. The range doesn't feel an inch longer than my el chepo cross trainer (which was the same wheel in front design)

Higher.. Higher.... It's actually very high up. I'm not sure why the pedal motion has to be some complicated but it almost adds 2 feet to the hight of your placement... You need to clean your ceiling... The annoying thing for me is that it's next to my Racer S... which is 2 feet lower in usage position... Which means the TV I have in front of them is not at the right angle any more. My old cross trainer incidentally gave me the same high as the Racer S

Handle bars.... The feel very thin and flimsy.... I'm sure I can't bend the 1 inch steel or whatever they are made of... But the little 30p plastic buttons you stick on top..... they are only secured by gravity and good will.. Am I supposed to glue them on ?.. or is part of the training to grip the handles with your hands so the unit doesn't fall apart ?

Foot box... Feels small.. I'm Euro 44 size... and I feel imprisoned in them... my el chepo cross trainer had much bigger foot box... I guess it's a habit thing

KWT

Both units are used by the same software. Easy to swap between the two.
However it would be very nice to have the performance rating done pr device.... and not just for the last test you did.

Also I'm not sure how the performance test does it's magic, ie the IPN.
I've done the lab test to have my 5 zones measured and neither on the bike or the cross trainer I get past my zone 2 in the test... It breaks off after 10 minutes, but the test suggests it can go further. It gives the result in all zones... Fair enough it's using the 3 zone system... but I'm pretty sure zone 2 in the 5 zone system is zone 1 in the 3 zone system.

Anyways I scored 0.7 which gives me happy face... Would be nice to know what it means.

Hello gjoess,

first of all welcome here.

I only own an ergo (Ergo Race) -> cannot reply @ Unix.

@ Mice sounds -> you should only hear the free hub noise when stopping pedaling.
Otherwise there might be something wrong.
-> guarantee issue

@rust -> is also an issue of the ergo race.
But no fear for you.
I have recently opened my ergo -> after 14000 km and much sweat
I noticed that the sweat runs down the seattube and on other parts of the Frame but has (can) not touched the electronic parts.
I have checked the power consumption of my ergo-> maximal 20 W.

Please use bike grease for all screws.

@moving handle -> have you tghtened all hand screws?

greetings from Austria

Erik
