Hello to all from France dear Kettler fans,

I have just bought and assembled a Kettler Crostrainer Optima 600 (most likely identical to 2019’s Unix E. It has a Kettler Premium Computer and electromagnetic breaking. Beautiful and very solid machine (what a terrible idea to deliver it without the two floor supporting feet mounted - a nightmare to lift and screw !).

The first time when I launched it, the computer switched on without going trough the la gauge choice but O could do from the settings menu, and allowed me to create a user. But it was not showing any data coming from the wheel in training mode (neither rpm, nor speed and watt) eve after several restarts and factory reset. The computer was switching down after a few (5”) seconds only of inactivity. When switching on it was always the same, no training data, but user kept and all types of exercise available.

I unplugged the power supply and plugged it back, the computer started from a factory setting (I was asked to set the language etc.) and from there on the computer started to behave normally in training mode showing all training data, the Bluetooth connection with my phone or tablet is working perfectly well, including with KETTMaps application. However, it is now impossible to create a user in the sense that at the last (5th) step when creating a new user I get a message in German (whereas I has set it to French) saying the the user has been created and when I click on the joystick it takes me back to the main menu whiteout any user created. And the menu is in German again. When it automatically switches off after a few minutes of not using it, when I switch it on again (from the joystick or by moving the pedals) it always does a factory reset asking me to set the language etc. But I am always unable to create a user ... as it ends up with the message in German.

It behaves like it would be in a shop exhibition mode (what they call “Public Place Mode”) but the menu shows this mode is off. I do not have access to any of the teint modes as I have only the Guest User and the QuickStart mode available).

Do you think the computer is broken or it is possible to do a low level reste which could allow to retrieve a normal operation mode ?

If necessary I could post a video with what happens.

first of all welcome here!
@ Premium E display the latest Firmware should be 31.27.
Can you check yours?
You can find FW Update files for the Premium E display you can in this forum -> Software/Downloads.
You need a PC and a mini USB data cable.

But only do a FW upgrade if yours is prior to 31.27.

Thank you for your prompt answer.
I have the 31.27 firmware (see attached picture) unfortunately.
As you can see it show 0 km as at every restart it makes a factory reset. I am so disappointed for a device in such a price range to have it delivered with an un working computer.
Any idea of it could be done ? I looks like it would be in this ‘Public Place Mode’ where it does not record anything ...

Hello NOCPMNO,

you can try the FW upgrade anyway -> please cross on rescue mode in the FW update program before you start the upgrade.
I think an electronic device on the circuit board -> like the accu is faulty. So nothing can be saved for the next Kettler session also the BT configurations.

Unfortunately the Premium E display has no round cell battery you can change like at the old Ergorace.

For the premium E display I know no factory reset procedure.
Try a FW update using FW 31.27.

I am sorry, big sh..
Go to your Kettler dealer and ask for a display replacement.
You can easily unclip the display. You cannot plug in the wrong cables.left and right different plugs
I have had a similar issue with my new Racer S premium display 3 years ago. After changing the display -> all fine.

Hi Erik,

Thanks again. I guess it should be a software issue as when I switched it on it was retaining the new user configurations but at that time it was not receiving data from the real wheel.

So I will try to see if I can do the FW update and if it does not work I will have to call the French distributor from which I have bought the machine.

My machine really behaves lie it would be in this « Public Place Mode » (see description in the picture) even though the computer says this mode is OFF.
Also when I try to toggle it ON by selecting ON, validating with the joystick and then pushing simultaneously the 3 keys when prompted, this either does not produce any effect or switches me to the Device Settings screen again in German !
Obviously attaching pictures does not work so I transcript bellow what the description of this mode is (right key):

« Switch to Public Place mode when the machine is in a publicly accessible fitness studio. In this mode only a Guest User may train. You may nit change settings or save workout results. »

This is precisely the behavior I see, with a simplified menu where only Guest User is available and in the Guest User menu only with only the QuickStart mode but without preset programmes.

I need to sort out how to get out of this mode which I’m obviously experiencing even though the system setting menu says it is OFF. Maybe I do not manage to properly push simultaneously the 3 keys, which is not easy as they are far from each other.

Hi Erik,

Thank you so much. The hardest part was ti find a PC as I am an Apple user and the MacOS-based Windows emulators didn't allow to see the device on the USB port.
But after I found to borrow a PC it was most straightforward following the installation and update instructions.

Everything is now working perfectly well.

Did you also notice any change in the responsiveness of the computer after updating? I am also a rather new owner of the Optima 600. Before I had a Rivo P for about 10 years and I'm rather disappointed by the upgrade that was three times the price the Rivo was at the time. If anything, the premium display feels more like the cheapest chinese tablet I once got for a few euros - press a button and wait seconds (!) for response and many times it does not respond at all. Even in Kinomaps the difficulty changes were lagging behind what was shown in the app. Otherwise the build quality of the machine seems to be on par. FW is latest according to your site, 31.27, hardware version 1.3. Is there something that could be done to make it better?

On a side note, my old Rivo P calculated 80 rpm to 30 km/h. The Optima 600 is calculating 80 rpm to 12,7 km/h (or something like that). Therefore, I can't use it for cycling videos at all, which is something I was looking forward to most. I have only tried Kettmaps and Kinomaps, but they seem to be the same. Is there an app that would allow me to bypass this?

I'm counting on your help, by mail I got no response from Kettler.

I have found this projecton github that makes older machines with no BT accessible via the rpi bt. Do you think I could solve my "speed problem" by connecting this, modify the speed on the rpi and connect the app through the rpi?
